1. The United States Olympic Committee is using HarrisOlympicPoll to see which non-Olympic summer sports the public would like to see added to the Olympic Games. We need everyone in the skating community to get online and get their votes in NOW! We all count! :-)

Just go to www.usoc.org...check to the right of the Harris Olympic poll and get your vote counted! Right now, skating is in the lead at 68%. I just checked!

Please be sure to pass this along to everyone you know online, skaters, non-skaters, fans, friends...

3. GETTING THE FRIENDSHIP TRAIL STARTED
Now that the Friendship TrailBridge is open and being used by hundreds of people each day - by thousands on weekends - attention is turned to the construction of the Friendship Trail. It will be approximately 15 miles from Weedon Island nature preserve in St. Petersburg, across the bridge to Picnic Island at southernmost Tampa.

At a meeting attended by Park, Planning and Public Works officials of Pinellas County, Hillsborough County, City of Tampa, City of St. Petersburg, Florida Dept. of Transportation and the Friendship Trail Corporation, Pinellas County kicked off it's "Causeway Development" project. It involves improvements to the beach area to the west of the Friendship TrailBridge. It will include the Friendship Trail, concessions, rest facilities and a canoe/kayak dock.

The design services firm of Greenhorne & O'Mara, Inc. was asked by the entities attending the meeting to include the entire Friendship Trail in their planning, which should be complete in November.

Florida State Senator Jim Sebesta and Florida State Representative Chris Hart IV have introduced similar appropriations requests in the Senate and House to fund starting the Friendship Trail from the Friendship TrailBridge at both ends. Both are on their respective Senate and House Transportation Committees. The requests are for $2.4 million, and would allow for the connection from the Friendship TrailBridge via either under both ends of the Gandy Bridges or over highway 92 via a pedestrian bridge to the Friendship Trail.

OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The Bridge Oversight Committee has authorized the expenditure of up to 90,000 for the acquisition of two temporary restrooms to be placed at each end of the bridge. These would replace the portalets currently on the sites.

The Pinellas Park Department is currently operating the bridge under Pinellas Park rules. Operation plans and trail rules that can be consistent with the laws and statutes of the four jurisdictions involved (Pinellas County, Hillsborough County, City of Tampa, Florida Dept. of Transportation) are being studied.

4. Hey.... Pamella and I are going to go down to Miami and blade SOUTH BEACH.
We are leaving Friday, April 7 for 2 nights. We are staying at the Days Inn Art Deco/Convention Center Hotel. It is located at 100 21st St., Miami Beach. Right on the beach and about 4 blocks from the main area of South Beach. The hotel phone number is 305-538-6631. If any one else is interested in going, call the hotel for reservation, and we'll see ya when you get there. This is not a planned affair, just something fun to do and thought others may be interested. Transportation down there is on your own.... I have been in touch with the group leader for the SOBE Rollers and they seem to have quite a bit of fun.
See you there.....
