Subject: Slight change in plans for Memorial Weekend

Hi Everyone,

We have had a very underwhelming response to my proposed Memorial Weekend Skating Events. For that reason, I have made other plans for Saturday as I was already signed up for the Run Through The Jungle 5K race that is part of a 10-race Joe Fernandez series that I have pre-registered for and pre-paid. I would have skipped it has there been a substantial interest in a Saturday skate. I still plan to be at Flatwoods Sunday and the Pinellas Trail - Taylor Park Monday at 7 a.m. and will wait a few minutes before setting out with whomever decides to show up. My red Stang will be parked near the rest rooms at each locations on their respective days by 7 am.

With regard to the Pinellas Trail Skate, whoever shows up will vote on which direction we head out and the majority will rule. If I'm by myself, I'll probably head toward the North End which was my original plan and it's a 38 mile round trip. If the consensus is to head for the South End, that is a 30 mile round trip. We still have shelter # 1 at Taylor Pk on reserve for whoever wants to use it for a picnic.

Anyone who still wants to do a Saturday skate can, of course, just show up at 7 am and see who decides to show up. A couple parties expressed an interest in participating in a Saturday skate at the same location (Taylor Park) so there's no reason not to show up and have a good skate.

Subject: MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Because time is getting by us at a breakneck speed with so much going on, I propose that we leave the schedule alone as originally proposed for the three days. Everyone who has received my info has had a chance to assimilate the original basic plan of going out & back from Taylor Park Largo for Saturday (to North end & back) & Monday.(to South end & back). For Sunday, we meet at Flatwoods off Morris Bridge entrance at the ranger station (same meeting location for the now-departed Moonlight Skates). Meet 7 am each day, rollout 7:30. We will go with your choice of restaurants for afterward. On Memorial Day, I did reserve the Pavillion # 1, but have not made any picnic plans so we have that for booting up, etc and for anyone who wants to use it for a picnic. I will see if I can quickly round up trail guides for both trails. This is strictly an informal event and no liability issues should be a factor - we're just a group of friends getting together, nothing more, nothing less. Everyone will be encouraged to follow trail rules and wear protective gear.

Breeze, go ahead and let the world know!

For questions, my email is jjerome1@tampabay.rr.com

To all interested parties, I would like an idea of how many to expect so please let me know for which days you wish to participate. Let me know via email above.

Please pass this along to the world:

PROPOSED MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND SKATING EVENT

I am working on a plan to make the Memorial Day weekend a full weekend of skating. To accommodate everyone, events are planned for each day of the weekend.

Saturday, May 29: North Pinellas Trail Skate, from Taylor Park to North end of Trail and return to Taylor Park. Meet at 7 a.m., rollout 7:30. Picnic at park or meet afterward at a restaurant, depending on availability of park pavilions. Total distance 38 miles.

Sunday, May 30: Skate either with the Sunday Bladers, starting at Curlew Rd. at 8:30 am, or meet me at Flatwoods (ranger station near Morris Bridge Rd entrance) at 7 am (rollout 7:30) for a choice of several distances, ranging from 8 miles (single short loop) to 24 miles (including two round trips to Bruce B Downs terminus). Brunch at Panera Bread afterward.

Monday, May 31, repeat of North Pinellas Trail Skate from Taylor Park to North end of Trail and return to Taylor Park. Meet at 7 a.m., rollout 7:30. Picnic at park or meet afterward at a restaurant, depending on availability of park pavilions.

An alternative for May 31st would be a South Pinellas Trail Skate from Taylor Park to South end of Trail and return to Taylor Park. Meet at 7 a.m., rollout 7:30. Picnic at park or meet afterward at a restaurant, depending on availability of park pavilions. Distance is a little shorter – 30 mile round trip.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Tell all your friends and RSVP, letting me know which events you are interested in participating.

COST: Free for the skate, potluck for any picnics, dutch treat for restaurants.
